August 20, 2024 - For more culinary diversity: Berit Schmitz, Managing Director of Hamburg Airport, and Jochen Halfmann, CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail, today presented the new gastronomy world at Hamburg Airport. Four new food concepts, all operated by Lagardère Travel Retail, are now taking passengers on a culinary journey around the world. In the security area, there are now oven-fresh pizzas at White Monkey - Pizza Lab & Bar, American food at Burger King and authentic Thai cuisine at Kaimug Taste Thai. A second Marché has opened in the public area, specializing in Mediterranean dishes.

Berit Schmitz, Managing Director at Hamburg Airport , says: "It was our goal to offer our passengers a new culinary variety that optimally meets the changing food culture. For this reason, last year we held the largest catering tender of the past ten years and won over a long-term airport partner in Lagardère Travel Retail, who convinced us with a creative, holistic concept. As an airport, we are a place where very different people come together every day, and the trick is to develop an offer that appeals to the broad masses but also covers individual needs. With our new catering world, we have managed this balancing act perfectly."

Jochen Halfmann, CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail , says: "The opening of four new locations at Hamburg Airport is another significant milestone for Lagardère Travel Retail. Our team has been extremely motivated to develop a convincing and innovative overall concept that ideally serves the needs of the various target and travel groups at the airport. With our mix of successful concepts, such as a full-service restaurant, we look forward to delighting our guests every day and offering them a unique gastronomic experience."

Market Bistro: the flair of Southern Europe

A second location of the popular Marché restaurant has opened at Hamburg Airport, covering 300 square meters. The new Marché Bistro in the public area of Terminal 1 is different from the existing Marché in Terminal 2 and is inspired by the lively market halls of southern Europe, reflects the Mediterranean lifestyle and is an experience for all the senses. With its green and white striped awnings, wooden elements and colorful walls, the restaurant is an eye-catcher from afar. The airy, relaxed atmosphere with the diverse seating areas and natural materials also immediately creates a holiday feeling. The centerpiece of the new Marché is a live cooking area. Tempting focaccia, antipasti and pasta like in Italy, Spanish tapas and sweet treats such as cakes and Danish pastries are created before the eyes of the guests. Homemade lemonades, coffee specialties and juices round off the offering. The Marché Bistro is the only one of the new concepts located in the public area and can therefore also be visited by guests without a plane ticket who would like to watch the hustle and bustle of the airport from the restaurant.

White Monkey – Pizza Lab & Bar: Combination of bistro, service restaurant and self-service

After the security check, passengers sometimes have more, sometimes less time to eat a meal. The White Monkey - Pizza Lab & Bar is a good address for all passengers, as it combines three operating concepts - this concept is unique at Hamburg Airport. In an area of 230 square meters, passengers will find both a bistro with baked goods to take away and a self-service restaurant, and those with plenty of time can even order à la carte and enjoy the best service with a view of the apron. There is a choice of imaginative pizza creations from classic to fine to sweet, which surprise in their recipe, shape and presentation and are served on the wooden board with scissors. The offer is complemented by fresh salads. The White Monkey also stays true to its wooden board at breakfast and offers a selection of delicacies - from the breakfast menu to individually prepared egg dishes. The bar offers cocktails, for example classics such as Caipirinha or Mojito, but also non-alcoholic variants. Communicative elements such as nostalgic billboards are constantly being reused, and wall graphics incorporate typically Italian souvenir motifs and playfully present them. White Monkey is located on the passenger pier at Gate A17/18.

Kaimug Taste Thai: authentic Thai cuisine

If you take the escalator up after the security check, you will reach the food court of Hamburg Airport (Gallery, Level 2). There, Kaimug Taste Thai offers a new concept that should particularly appeal to passengers who are enthusiastic about a balanced diet. Authentic curries, crispy wok dishes or Thai classics such as Pad Thai are made completely without additives and glutamate, are full of fresh ingredients and are a delight for the palate. Many of the dishes are vegetarian or vegan. The design is based on typical Thai street kitchens, where the wok clatters and the aromatic smell can be smelled from afar. Guests can enjoy the ambience of Asia in around 100 square meters.

Burger King: world-famous fast food restaurant

Burger King has also opened in the food court on over 100 square meters - it is the first quick service restaurant with American food in the security area of Hamburg Airport. Burger King is known for its flame-grilled beef burgers, including the world-famous Whopper. Passengers can choose from more than 60 different snacks. In addition to the classics, there are also plant-based burgers, chicken products and a large selection of hearty side dishes, soft drinks and desserts. The new design is characterized by a combination of bright and bold colors and is rounded off by a variety of textures and natural materials such as wood, metal and stone. The tailor-made play area at the back of the restaurant ensures fun and shortens the waiting time for families before departure. Orders can be placed at six self-order terminals or at the counter.
